Course Overview: Options and Futures in Financial Decision Making

Prerequisites: Students must have completed either BBA Junior or Senior status, possess MM qualifications, hold a Business Minor, or enroll as a graduate student. Prior knowledge of FIN 300, FIN 557, or FIN 302 is required.

This course delves into the realm of financial derivatives – critical tools for professionals in finance. It begins by exploring the unique attributes and markets of options, futures, and swaps. Then, students will delve into the core economic principles that underpin their valuation and hedging strategies. Finally, we'll examine how these derivatives are utilized across various aspects of finance including risk management, portfolio insurance, index arbitrage, corporate finance, among others.

In this course, teaching methods include lectures, discussions on current market dynamics in derivative sectors, and practical trading simulations to enhance understanding.

Previously known as FIN 380 prior to the academic year 2014-2015, students are encouraged to enroll based on their qualifications outlined above.
