Being a Junior or Senior undergraduate student or enrolled in an MM program with Business Minor status.

Or possessing FIN 300 credit or its equivalents FIN 557 or FIN 302.
Overview:
This course delves into financial derivatives – crucial securities that are central to the knowledge base of professionals within finance sectors. It comprises three core elements:

An examination of options, futures, and swaps characteristics alongside their respective markets.

A study of fundamental economic principles underlying derivative pricing and hedging strategies.

Exploration of how these financial tools are utilized in various areas of finance, such as risk management through hedging, portfolio insurance, index arbitrage, corporate finance activities.
Teaching Approach:
The curriculum utilizes a combination of approaches including lectures, discussions on prevling market conditions across different derivative markets, and interactive trading simulations to enhance practical understanding.
Prior to the Fall semester in 2014, FIN 480 was listed as FIN 380.
Instructor Information:
Taught by Jason Hall - Lecturer I in Business. His teaching responsibilities encompass classes on corporate investment decisions, options futures, and big data including techniques. In recognition of his contributions to education, he received the Neary award in 2020.
